Review Future Horizons: Glass in Contemporary Art

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung, the exhibition Future Horizons. Glass in Contemporary Art (10 October 2025–19 July 2026), curated by Dr. Petra Giloy-Hirtz and Dr. Eva-Maria Fahrner-Tutsek brought together more than 70 works by around 50 international artists. Over the past nine months, it has opened up diverse perspectives on glass as a medium in contemporary art. The architecture, developed specifically for the exhibition by Berlin based studio Bruzkus Greenberg, offered a space that allowed visitors to discover the works both sensually and intellectually and to relate them to one another.

A very special component of the anniversary exhibition was the extensive accompanying program. With more than 40 events, Future Horizons offered numerous opportunities to experience the exhibition from ever-changing perspectives. Lunch Breaks, Breakfast Clubs, workshops for the whole family, “Lucky Dinners,” Glass Hours, artist talks with receptions, ice cream tastings, and curator-led tours opened up surprising ways to engage with the exhibited works and connected contemporary art using glass as a medium with themes from architecture, literature, cuisine, and everyday culture.

Future Horizons remains vibrant even beyond the exhibition: The richly illustrated publication About Glass. Contemporary Sculpture and Installations and the accompanying podcast Future Horizons invite to further explore the diverse artistic perspectives and the fascination of glass as a material.
