Karolina Wojtas, Abzgram, 2017–2023
20-minute guided tour through the exhibition followed by a lunch snack
with Dr. Sally Oey
We don’t need no education. School as a subject in Karolina Wojtas’ visual world.
In her series Abzgram, Karolina Wojtas challenges all familiar notions of school and its traditional learning spaces. Her photography is vivid, wild and deliberately exaggerated, emerging as a playful field of experimentation in which there seem to be no rules. The inspiration for “Abzgram” comes from the artist’s negative experiences at school. Originally from Poland, she directs her frustration with the educational system of that era towards creating anarchic visual spaces where humour, resistance and subtle violence all come to the fore. This Lunch Break explores the key elements of this body of work, examining how Wojtas uses her subversive visual world to create a radical alternative to the traditional school system.
Experience contemporary art in the compact format of a lunch break! The Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung’s Lunch Breaks offer intellectual nourishment and culinary delights in the BlackBox and BlackBox FirstFloor. The foundation’s team provides 20 minutes of entertaining insights into the current exhibition of changing artworks and themes. Afterwards, there is an opportunity for discussion over a lunch snack. The lunch snack is included in the ticket price.
