Cooling System 3 – Environmental Awareness in the Work of Laure Prouvost

This Lunch Break focuses on French artist Laure Prouvost, who was awarded the Turner Prize in 2013 and represented the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2019. A central element of the current presentation is her glass sculpture Cooling System 3 (For Global Warming) (2018). The shape of the sculpture is reminiscent of a shower—if you consider the accompanying watercolor as a kind of instruction manual, the work turns out to be a light-hearted solution to global warming. However, this work is much more than a humorous gesture, it is one of a number of works by Prouvost that address climate change. In doing so, she repeatedly highlights the deep connection and mutual dependence between humans and all other species on our planet.

Experience contemporary art in the compact format of a lunch break!
