Next Generation Refractories
The Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung supports the project “Next Generation Refractories“ (NGR) at the University of Koblenz for three years to advance the development of refractory material mixtures. The research aims to optimize the structure of these materials for them to become significantly more stable and resilient. Novel binder materials are being developed, put to use and being tested for their effectiveness with various methods.
The project specifically deals with the targeted influencing of the material structure. Highly specialized processes such as the sol-gel method, the use of geopolymers, and the production of resin-like base substances are used for additive development.
By precisely varying these raw materials, the components are tailored exactly to the requirements of the respective refractory mixtures. The scientific goal is to control the development of the products’ strength so that they react optimally and remain stable depending on the temperature range.
