New publication to mark anniversary
About Glass. Contemporary Sculpture and Installations
As part of this year’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung has published a comprehensive book on glass as a material in contemporary art. Usually associated with design and craftsmanship, glass has developed over the last few decades from a neglected material into an increasingly popular medium for art. The Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung has promoted this development through exhibitions, academic work, and the establishment of a collection.
The new volume presents a selection of around 50 artists from different geographical and cultural backgrounds, including internationally renowned, unknown, and newly discovered artists. From spectacular small objects to installations, they showcase the diverse artistic practice of working with glass.
About Glass presents works by Monica Bonvicini, Tony Cragg, Carlos Garaicoa, Mona Hatoum, Shirazeh Houshiary, Laure Prouvost, Kiki Smith, and important representatives of the studio glass movement. They all make use of the special properties of glass as a material: its clarity, reflectivity, and fragility; its spectrum of colors; its immediacy and tactility; its narrative quality and emotional aura.
With its numerous illustrations and texts by experts, the publication is intended as a contribution to the discourse on glass as a material in contemporary art.
Now available in bookstores or at a special anniversary price in the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung webshop.
